Biomass Wood Pellet Boiler Explained - How CAT use it
(Follow the link above for a short video on Biomass Heating)
These biomass boilers are all over CAT even in the cabins we stayed in, which do generate a lot of power by burning the wood and then using the energy when its being burnt to heat water and also charge batteries to power electrical appliances, which is appropriate for the cabins that where at CAT.
Advantages of this are:
- This can reduce your billed by 25% as you will be using renewable energy.
- As above, it will use renewable material to keep it going.
- Reduced admissions for heating.
- You wouldn't need a grid link to heat water or hot air.
Disadvantages of this are:
- Space for a big boiler for the school project.
- Getting it up and running will cost alot more, as the large one in the image costs around 1million.
- Storage for materials.
- Noise pollution, can be very noisy.
But also looking at this with thought for my school project the type of bio mass boiler would have to be very large, also accompanied with a large plant room for its up keeping. Now it will also have to be maintained all the time and kept burning. It also could cause a lot of pollution which wouldn't be a good idea for a school in the middle of Nottingham. So with this in mind even though this is a brilliant sustainable technique for some it may not be the relevant one for my school project.
