Now the system we have seen on CAT is the Hydro water pump systems, which takes
water and turns it in to kinetic energy for use. Now going in to further detail
about this system, you will need a reservoir at a suitable height for a gravity
fed system, now CAT has a 27 ft high gravity fed system which draw the water
from the reservoir and takes it down to a few sand beds with filtrate the water
as there will be natural organisms living in there. From here it is taken to a
Pelton wheel (water turbine) at a height pressure (BAR) and is spun to create
energy then dropping to the bottom of the tank and draining in to the large
black tankers and stored.
Now looking at this in perspective to my school project, I believe that the area the school is to be located in and the limited space around the site I would not advise this type of sustainable technology. This is simply because we haven’t got the height on the site (even though this can be created) and a head with a reservoir for the water, nor the room to install this.
Now you may think you can put this on top of the
multi-storey school. Even though this may be a good idea, but then on the other
hand you will need a 12 meter deep reservoir as well as your drop, with the
load of the water this may not be possible as it will be a very heavy load for
the roof of the school. There for this is not the right sustainable option for
my school project.
